I said I’d work my way back in time, so let’s return to the year we’d all like to forget, 2020.
Via his Lockdown Licks YouTube videos, and the engaging of his helpful manager, (thanks for being a good sport, Mike!) I was able to send a PDF of my silly short story Mad About The House to Guy Pratt.
Having enjoyed so much the film Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets Live at the Roundhouse, I really thought Guy and the other guys (hehe) would get a kick out of being told about it.
The sending of MATH provided the perfect opportunity to send Guy such a letter, and while I was at it I would say a few things about his time with Floyd.
I’d cover myself by saying, “I hope I’m not out of line here, but I’d just like to take this opportunity to say…” Then at the end I’d say, “If you’ve read this far, thanks for being a good sport…” (yeah I know, I like the “good sport” bit.)
You know how I said earlier Guy could brutally kick butt if he didn’t like a comment? Well, this is his response to my email:
“Already got it. That letter is way too long. If you want me to read a story, send the story.”
ZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, OUCH
I apologized for the liberty I’d taken, although I did add, “You would have liked what I said.”
Some time elapsed and I still felt like crap about it, so I put another post in the thread:
“I’m waking up at 3 every morning with this recurring dream. I’m getting kicked up the backside, and
then “affectionately” hit over the head with a bass guitar. How can I make it stop?”
Guy responded with:
“Don’t worry about it. It’s fine.”
He turned out to be a good sport after all.
