David Gilmour wins Concert of the Year at LEA awards in Germany

David Gilmour won Concert of the Year at yesterday’s LEA awards in Germany for the show at Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna, on June 28th 2016, ahead of fellow nominees Adele, Andreas Gabalier, Iron Maiden, and Yello.

More than 500 live productions were screened in the year 2016 by PRG LEA’s jury, composed of renowned music journalists, radio broadcasters and cultural managers. It also assessed the outstanding achievements of promoters, artisans, booking agencies and tour operators.

Barracuda Music promoted both of David’s shows at the Vienna venue.

TV channel Sky Arts have announced a new TV series titled Brian Johnson’s Life On The Road.

It will see the former AC/DC frontman interview a host of big names from the world of rock and metal, with the first episode featuring The Who’s Roger Daltrey scheduled to air on April 28.

Sky Arts say: “One of rock music’s iconic and tour-hardened frontmen, Brian Johnson, gives us a brand new and exclusive take on one aspect of the rock and roll life – live performance, touring and being on the road.”

The following five episodes see the singer talk to Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Sting, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Robert Plant.

In part 2 of The Big Interview sneak peek, Roger Waters, talks about his legendary album, The Dark Side of the Moon. He also shares with Dan aspects of his career that he is most proud of.

For the first time in 25 years Roger Waters has a new solo album coming out, in part because the Trump administration has him as inspired, or incited, as he’s ever been.

On Tuesday, April 4th, The Big Interview with Dan Rather has Roger Waters as his guest. The show airs at 8pm EST/7pm CST on AXS TV.

 “Tomorrow you’ll get to see an interview with Waters, the visionary behind Pink Floyd. He is provocative, outspoken, but also poetic. I was struck by his ability to paint a picture with words. At one point when I asked him about the story behind Pink Floyd’s classic song “Wish You Were Here”, he explained how former lead singer Syd Barrett was part of the inspiration for the song, but in general he prefers to not examine the when and the how of songwriting too much. “It would feel a little bit like investigating a butterfly,” he said. “You end up with dust and a few broken bits”..”

From today’s Sun newspaper is an article featuring the first of the artefacts being taken in to the Victoria & Albert in London, for The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains which opens on the 13th May 2017.

Tickets for the exhibition are now on sale, and are priced at £20 (Monday-Friday), £24 (Saturday-Sunday), and concessions, including family tickets at reduced prices, are available. Advance booking is strongly advised.

Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ Recording Console Sells for $1.8M

Yesterday, an Abbey Road recording console used by Pink Floyd during some of the recording of The Dark Side of the Moon, sold at auction at Bonhams New York. The pre sale estimate of £550,000 for the 40–channel EMI TG12345 MK IV console was easily eclipsed by the final selling price of $1,807,500 (£1,441,842). This is a new world record for an item of technology, the previous record being £718,000 paid for an Apple 1 computer in 2014. It is also easily the most expensive piece of Pink Floyd memorabilia to date.

The console, made in 1971, was housed in Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios, and used by a variety of artists. Other than Pink Floyd, these included the likes of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Kate Bush.

THE FIRST STUDIO RECORDINGS FROM THE CLASSIC 60s PINK FLOYD LINE UP RELEASED FOR RECORD STORE DAY ON LIMITED EDITION 12″ PICTURE DISC VINYL

Pink Floyd’s ‘London 1966/1967’ was originally recorded for Peter Whitehead as part of his legendary 1967 “Tonite Lets All Make Love In London” film – semi-documentary about the “swinging London” scene of the sixties. The film featured a series of psychedelic performances and interviews and features live performance by Pink Floyd, together with footage of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, Vanessa Redgrave, Lee Marvin, Julie Christie, Allen Ginsberg, Eric Burdon, Michael Caine and many others attending one of the band’s concerts.

‘London 1966/1967’ features two rare performances, from classic Floyd era featuring Syd Barrett, when they were at their most adventurous and exploratory, including an explosive 17 minute version of ‘Interstellar Overdrive’, recorded at the legendary Sound Techniques studio in early 1967.

These first ever studio recordings from the classic 1960’s Pink Floyd line-up are available as a special Record Store Day release on eye-catching picture disc vinyl strictly limited to 2,000 copies worldwide.
