On Friday 21 June David Gilmour and a star studded cast performed a charity concert at
Cowdray House, Midhurst, West Sussex. For the White Lotus School, Ladakh & Tibet House Trust.
The concert was an evening of Beatles music performed by:
David Gilmour / Ringo Starr / Mike Rutherford / Roger Taylor / Lulu / Bob Geldof / Paul Carrack / Donovan / Gary Brooker / Kenney Jones / Damon Hill / and other special guests, compared by Chris Tarrant
Mike Sanchez & his band.
It’s thought that Guy Pratt was on bass, although no announcement was made to that effect.
David played two sessions during the concert – the first was with Bob Geldof on lead vocals and covered several early Beatles singles (I Wanna Hold Your Hand, She Loves You and one other ). His main spot was about 30 minutes later when he did lead vocals on three songs – Across the Universe, Revolution and Long, Long, Long. He mostly played rhythm guitar, but eventually played one of his trademark beautiful solos as the coda to Long, Long, Long. A unique night to remember.
With many thanks to Mark Doyle
