What an amazing third night at the Hollywood Bowl! David and the band brought so much energy, I truly believe last night’s concert was the best of the four in LA. Everyone performed and sang beautifully, and there was a funny moment during “Coming Back To Life” when the band ended the song just before the second chorus because David forgot to sing and kept playing the first solo, which made Guy, David and the others look at one another and smile, it was actually heartwarming seeing them realize and then being total professionals and carrying on, as they do. Thankfully, the weather was warmer near the front, so those of us who had seats up close weren’t freezing, making it a perfect night for the final concert of this small residency. The crowd was mostly relaxed and enjoyable, as many of us felt this might be our last chance to see David, unless you’re heading to Madison Square Garden next week. We all just soaked in the experience.
Besides the flub in ‘Back To Life,’ no noticeable differences tonight musically, aside from the subtle improvisations and nuances that David incorporates into his performance each night. “Great Gig” was perfect tonight, David looking very happy and clearly pleased with how it turned out. Visually, Marc Brickman played around with “Sorrow” and “Comfortably Numb,” once more, both of which David played exceptionally well on last night, his Black Cat Strat shook the entire venue! The setlist was the same as the previous two nights, with the omission of “A Great Day For Freedom,” which we are told was due to a curfew at the venue, but could also possibly be that David dropped it to change up the setlist. We’ll see next week once the band head to Madison Square Garden in New York City, starting on November 4th. Well done everybody, thank you for four brilliant shows!
