Fingal’s Cave Podcast Ep.21 – ‘Artist On The Border’ on bootleg artworks, animations and the Roger “Syd” Barrett Legacy

Fingal’s Cave Podcast has added yet another interesting guest, this episode features Alexander Teglbjærg, who is better known by his artist name as Artist On The Border. Alex is responsible for creating artwork for various Pink Floyd bootlegs in the late 90’s and supported the Harvested label on a few releases.

He later launched a YouTube channel where he animated official Pink Floyd artwork, which opened doors for collaboration with Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets. Additionally, he has developed a close relationship with Roger “Syd” Barrett’s family, serving as the official animator for all content on the official Syd Barrett website and YouTube channel. In just six days, David Gilmour’s album Luck and Strange will be released – you can click the highlighted link to order your copy. Just yesterday, David’s YouTube channel shared a nearly 19-minute EPK that dives into the making of the album. The video includes teasers of some unreleased songs, such as Sings and Scattered. This week brings you a roundup of news regarding Luck and Strange. We’re nearly two weeks away from the album’s release and promotion is in full swing! Yesterday, David Gilmour and Co. presented the album’s Dolby Atmos mix in a theater to friends and family – with David looking spiffy in a nice sport jacket introducing the playback with co-host Matt Everitt (of BBC Radio). Some video has made its way to YouTube of David’s introduction, courtesy of Total Rock:

Additionally, David is set to appear as a guest on an upcoming episode of The Rockonteurs with Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt, so stay tuned for that!

Lastly, there are updates regarding the deluxe box sets for ‘Luck and Strange.’ A very limited edition of the CD/Blu-ray and LP/Blu-ray deluxe sets, which looks to be sold out right now, includes a print featuring one of Anton Corbijn’s remarkable portraits of David. Out today, the third single from David Gilmour’s new album Luck and Strange, titled Dark and Velvet Nights, is a powerhouse of a tune!

Written by David Gilmour and Polly Samson, ‘Dark And Velvet Nights’ came from a poem Polly had written. David Gilmour ‘The music sprang out one day. It was so exciting to have come across this groove. Polly had given me a beautiful poem for our wedding anniversary, which was sitting on the desk right next to me, so I picked it up and sang it on the track, to hear what it would sound like with words. I played it to Polly, and she said, “Lovely, great, I’ll need to fiddle with it a bit. So she added a couple of verses, and there it was – very serendipitous.”

We at AFG would like to wish a very happy 75th birthday to guitar legend Tim Renwick! Tim is best known for joining the touring bands of Roger Waters in 1984 and Pink Floyd in 1987-89 and 1994. Tim also contributed guitars on Richard Wright’s Broken China album in 1996 as well as accompanying Pink Floyd during their Live 8 performance in 2005.
